What is a browser extension?
A browser extension — also called an add-on — is a small program that runs alongside your browser and adds to the websites you visit. You know the principle from password managers and ad blockers: installed once, the feature is there in every tab.
The interesting part for a company: an extension is allowed to change the pages you have open. It can add a button to a web application that does not have one, read information out of the page and send it to your own system, or collapse a sequence of clicks into a single step. Even when the vendor of that application offers no interface at all.
That becomes relevant whenever your team works daily inside a web tool you do not own and cannot change — a supplier portal, a partner booking system, an industry application in the browser.
